Granted, there are things that can be done better and this isn't a sprint, it's a race, so we hope that in time those that did invest for the longer term will be rewarded. I believe Gartner defines this as the trough of despondency in their Hype cycle, so looking at that things should start coming back into alignment, especially when others discover the API that you mentioned.
